OceanBit’s Data Center Solution:
OTEC Data Centers
Our solution solves the data center energy, water, and grid interconnection problem
We couple high-density compute with ocean thermal power generation to provide 24/7 behind-the-meter renewable energy and unlimited cooling.
No more cooling costs or water use reduces data center energy consumption by up to ~40%.
No more long interconnection times reduces stand-up time for new builds.
OceanBit integrated data centers achieve a PUE of ~1.0 using a Zero-Carbon Energy source.
This is an offshore Data Center, tapping into existing submarine cable infrastructure and using the planet’s largest thermal battery.

Why Ocean Thermal Data Centers?
The rise in artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and other virtual technologies has significantly increased the demand for data centers and their associated electricity demand.
Across the globe, there is an increased need for data centers. In America, this is as much as about 9% of total U.S. electricity production in 2030 (from about 4% today).
What to do with the data?
OceanBit’s patented technology addresses this by reducing demand through improvements in energy efficiency and low carbon technologies that can be applied to new greenfield data centers. Our combined cooling and power system eliminates the cooling energy and water consumption of a data center while providing baseload zero-carbon energy.
Our plant ship design allows us to convert existing oil and gas vessels into collocated power plant data centers. By using standardized hull forms, we’re able to use existing shipyard infrastructure for a serialized repeatable design.
New centers, especially hyperscale data centers, can consume upwards of 100 MW. As a result, data center electricity consumption is expected to surge.
Data center operations produce a significant amount of low-grade heat and require the use of cooling equipment that can account for around ~40% of a data center’s total electricity use. This equipment is typically a combination of HVAC systems and water cooling.
From the shipyard, we transport the plant ship to location, moor it to the sea floor, and connect it into the existing 100,000’s of miles of submarine cable infrastructure crisscrossing the oceans. In doing this, we’re able to serve the global data market from the Ocean Thermal Region in the tropics.
Benefits of Ocean Thermal Data Centers
24/7 Flexible Load
Our technology enables Ocean Thermal power plants to deliver responsive, dispatchable power that precisely matches consumer load profiles.
Carbon-Free
Our power generation produces zero greenhouse gases or emissions, helping consumers achieve their renewable energy and sustainability development goals.
Scalable
With our modular concept design we can easily scale installation capacities and expand power plants to meet growing future demands.
Cost-effective
Utilizing innovative vessel designs and the monetization of curtailed power, we offer a more economical solution compared to traditional OTEC systems.
Offshore
Designed specifically for maritime applications, our offshore plants minimize environmental footprint and logistical challenges associated with land-based Ocean Thermal power delivery.
Ancillary services
Our system's flexible design enables us to provide essential grid services like frequency response, voltage control, and black start capabilities.
Coastal energy is critical to humanity as 40% of the world’s population live within 100km of the coast.
That’s about ~2.4 billion people.
Our goal is to provide continuous, renewable, clean energy at a fraction of the cost, transforming the OTEC Zone and ensuring stability for future development of communities and industry.
