How does Demand Response OTEC work?
In all energy markets across the world, there are peak and non-peak periods: times when customers require 100% of the energy, and other times when this demand decreases.
This poses a significant challenge in commercializing OTEC — ocean thermal energy cannot be turned off, leading to energy wastage when demand is low.
OceanBit’s patented technology addresses this challenge by harnessing this excess energy, overcoming the commercialization challenge OTEC developments have faced previously.
This innovative approach effectively addresses the economic challenges faced by a viable ~10 MW gateway plant. The 50–100 MW scale resolves the issue of customers not needing to continuously purchase the plant’s maximum energy output.
Our solution provides continuous, renewable, clean energy at a fraction of the cost. This integration offers a highly flexible load that can adjust rapidly to complement the buyer’s energy requirements, ensuring the DROTEC plant continuously operates at optimal capacity (100%).
